Cosmetic mentoring in surgery is essential when entering independent practice and on cosmetic procedures that need experience building. Great to see a fellow colleague display the surgical skills they had trained in, while I offered my thoughts and experiences. Opportunities to discuss the bespoke and uniqueprocedures we undertake as a dual qualified cosmetic facial plastic and maxillofacial surgeons. Those surgeries include surgical genioplasty, jaw and facial bone contouring, and recognising the relationships between nose, face and chin in profiloplasty.

Mr Brian Musgrove, facial plastic and maxillofacial surgeon, was a great influence for me during my training as his registrar, and subsequently within the profession. Captivating to hear over lunch Brian’s experiences in his illustrious career in maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery. The challenges he faced both clinical and political, and the resilience he grew to become a respected surgeon by patients and colleagues alike. A pioneer in facial gender reassignment surgery alongside comprehensive facial cosmetic surgery and head & neck cancer surgery.

Performing cosmetic facial plastic surgery on some challenging cases with a deep plane facelift, followed by some professional reflection over a rewarding meal at The Ivy.

An enjoyable day mentoring a colleague in cosmetic surgery at the Cadogan Clinic, Chelsea, in the heart of London. An opportunity to try out the piezoelectric saw in rhinoplasty surgery. A rewarding meal in Sloane Square before return home. Looking forward to more surgical mentoring.
